And no matter how many ways people tell you that, when you are pregnant with your first child, you dont believe it. Now, thats not to say you dont think SOMETHING will change…but everything??? How is that possible?? I know for me, there are some days I cant even put all of it into words. I still remember the birth of both Haylee and Ashleigh so clearly, its like it happened yesterday. They way they looked at me, like they already knew me inside and out, and they could see to the very depths of my soul. And the way I looked at them…I swear it almost hurt to love something so much and so instantly. There is something so perfect about that perfectly soft baby skin, and that delicious baby smell. Its contagious I tell ya!

And I look at them now, and I try to think where the years have gone. Wasn’t haylee just sitting in her baby swing, all swaddled up? Wasn’t Ash crawling through the house? Even Hunter and Cam- babies when Mark and I married, and now, playing sports, and having crushes on girls- and choosing music and headphones over us. I know as I look at them, before I know it, they will be married with children of their own. Oh, I know, there are days I want to kill them for not listening, or talking back, or for painting on my walls. But, I also know that all too soon, my house will be eerie and quiet on the weekends because they are at the mall with friends- no longer BEGGING me to take them to the pool, or to push them on the swing, or to play barbies and wii with them. Maybe thats the thing about parenthood- you dont know what you’ve got till its grown and gone.

Sunday is Mothers day- you know the day that we mom’s get to “relax”, put our feet up, and just be- LOL! Ok, so really, that never happens, once a mom, always a mom! But, I hope for all the moms out there that you take a moment to relish in those babies {even if they now have babies of their own!} and to touch their amazing hair, or kiss their perfect knees, or just remind them, that on the day they were born they changed everything!

Happy Mothers day to all the amazing, strong and FABULOUS mother’s out there!

I know, I went to this workshop in November- but I feel like I have been non-stop since then, and never had a chance to go back and edit my photos from the trip.  The workshop itself was amazing. I am sure all of us in our lives have someone in our industry who we admire beyond all else.  For me, thats Jasmine.  I have stalked her blog, I have watched her podcasts, I have read and re-read her posts.  I kept telling Mark when she did workshops, I HAD to go.  Well, last June, the first one she did, sold out in an hour. Then she did another in August, which was right when the kids went back to school {and also sold out in an hour}. So, in September, when she blogged that she would be doing one more workshop in the US in 2009, I knew I was going. I still remember getting back my email confirmation- I was ECSTATIC!

The workshop focused mainly on branding and business.  We photogs spend so much time perfecting the photography side, but its the business side that keeps us behind the lens! Without a business, we have nothin’! The J* workshop is a huge part of the blog makeover.  Stay tuned for more changes to come- I am hoping they will all be live early July! I am so excited for my branding changes- although I have to say they are more refinements. We spent so much time at the workshop discussing our style- and Jasmine really pushed us to look at our work, and fine tune our brand to match what our shooting style is. In all honesty, I feel like it has taken the three years I have been in business to know what my style is. It took alot of soul searching, and a lot of pestering friends, family, and colleagues, but I think I am there! Stay tuned for the unveiling…

I met some fabulous photogs at the workshop, and feel like I got an amazing oppurtunity to not only meet one of the major rockstars of wedding photography, but to refine my business model, and my style.  It was such an awesome opportunity- I just wish I had more time in Orange County.  Here is Jasmine’s post- take a peak, you can see me at the workshop. Apparently while I was in dredging through months of invoices, bank statements, and credit card purchases, those two were on the front porach {aka “the stage”} playing Haylee’s favorite pretend game- she dances around like claira, while daddy is the nutcracker king, saving her.  I know Mark had so much to do in the yard, weeds to pull, flowers to water, but instead he was enjoying a perfect spring day wasting it with haylee…

Of course, he and I both constantly remind oursleves this is our last “baby”- can you call a 3 year old a baby anymore? An we remind ourselves to enjoy all the little moments that will soon be gone- when she climbs up into our laps, our when she wants to snuggle in bed, or when the older kids BEG for 15 more minutes to stay up so they can hang out with us.  All to soon, these babies will be off to college, and Mark and I will wonder where it all went. Sure, we always joke about being able to travel without kids, or go run errands, and actually get out of the store without going to the toy section.  But, I am trying harder to focus on all the small moments with the kids, and Mark too. The everyday moments that I am so thankful for. I found this video on another photographers site, and I finished watching it, I knew I had to share with all of you.  I hope you take 10 minutes from your day today and listen to what she says…it really makes you think- whether your kids are newborns or newly married! Enjoy!

Yesterday, the family headed over to a birthday party  for the uber- fabulous 6 year old- Miss Landry.  Upon arrival, we were greeted by a HUGE bounce house- you know the kind with the bouncy part AND the slide! When I was a kid, a birthday party consisted of some games, some cake, and then you sent them on their merry way!  Now kids get dress up parties, bounce house parties, arcade parties…I am so envious!

Miss Landry had a great birthday, and so did everyone else there! I dont think Haylee left the bounce house until it got so dark, she could no longer see the yard! We stayed to celebrate the Super Bowl too- and while Mark’s Colt’s did not win…we ate, drank and were merry! What a perfect way to end the weekend!

So many of us, couples especially, forgo on custom photography, except for “highlight” moments.  Wedding, new babies, holidays- all the BIG moments in our lives we get photographed.  But what about the rest of it? You know, the special way that only HE can look at you? The wonderful way that SHE holds your hand.  Its all the things that make everyday worth getting up for.  I dont know about you, but Mark and I have so few pictures of us TOGETHER! This Christmas, one of our family members gave us a picture that was framed from John and Paige’s wedding.  Now, as most of you know, I was the photographer, so not many pictures of me exist from that night.  But, about 3 hours into the celebration with a rose in my hair, Kimberly captured mark and I in the same image! I promptly put that on our dresser! The last picture of the two of us together {besides the ones where we hold the camera together out from our faces- and capture about 1/3 of us} is from our wedding! So, on the list for 2009? Get some photographs of mark and I TOGETHER- Stacy I am coming your way!

WHEW! So, back to Gena and Mike…this ADORABLE couple decided they were in need of some more recent images…just because! Well, I have to say, the two were wonderful.  They reminded me so much of Mark and I- she is very outspoken, she just radiates LIFE.  Mike is a little more quiet, with a wonderful sense of humor.  But more than that, these two had so much love for each other.  The way that she looked at him, well, it just made my insides melt.  And the way he would hold her, ahh, its the stuff that sappy hallmark moments are made of- and this sappy girl LOVES IT! And whats even more amazing is that these two do it, and they rarely see each other! Mike was on his way to the west coast for a Huge project for a month! Ahh, aint love grand?!?
